The water chemistry is continuing to look good at Darlow; all indicators of pollution are undetectable (ammonia, nitrite and phosphate). Temperature is still high, but much relatively low compared to the last few years (19.6 °C at 0930 on Tue 01-Aug-2023). Oxygenation (7.8 mg/L, 88 % sat.) and clarity is good. Fish have been seen moving around the lake, especially near aerators, and some have been reported rising to flies but no catches have been reported.

An interesting find on the latest invertebrates survey – a freshwater stick insect (left) and an alderfly larva (right), see below. Good to see a few different species in the lake, and a good indicator of water quality and recovery since the algal bloom in 2021.
